Campus Motorized and Non-Motorized Transportation

This site provides information about motorized and non-motorized transportation on campus, including the motorized vehicle ban and safety guidance for bicycles and non-motorized scooters. Our goal is to support safe, responsible, and accessible transportation choices for the campus community.

Motorized Vehicles

Effective August 19, 2026 - To support a safer campus environment, motorized vehicles are not permitted on campus beginning the first day of Fall 2026 instruction.

What is considered a motorized vehicle?

A “motorized vehicle” is any non-human propelled device (not a motor vehicle) powered by electricity or fossil fuels. This includes:

  • Motorized scooters
  • Electric bicycles (e-bikes)
  • Mopeds
  • Motorized skateboards
  • Segway-style devices

Why is this ban in place?

This change is intended to improve the safety of the campus community, especially pedestrians and students, while ensuring compliance with existing state laws, such as California Vehicle Code 21235.

How will this ban be enforced?

Motorized vehicles on campus after the effective date will be confiscated (by Traffic Operations) and turned into campus Lost and Found (University Property and Warehouse, 2671 E. Barstow Fresno CA 93740, located on the corner of Woodrow and Barstow).
