Sick Leave for Bereavement (SD)
Definition
- Sick leave for Bereavement applies if an employee is so incapacitated due to the death of an immediate family member that he/she cannot return to work.
- This type of leave is mutually exclusive from paid funeral leave.
- For the definition of immediate family member and significantly close relative, see appropriate collective bargaining agreement.
- Sick leave for bereavement comes out of sick leave balance. It is not the same as paid funeral leave.

E99 | Two (2) paid days of bereavement leave for each death of an immediate family member. Applicable to Police Officer Cadet classification (class code 8346) only. |
M80 | Five (5) days with pay for each death of an immediate family member or significantly close relative. |
M98 | Five (5) days with pay for each death of an immediate family member or significantly close relative. |
RO1 | Five (5) days with pay for each death of a significantly close relative. |
RO 2,5,7,9 | Five (5) days with pay for each death of an immediate family member (as defined in Provision 15.1). |
RO3 | Five (5) days with pay for each death in the immediate family. |
RO4 | Five (5) days with pay for each death of a significantly close person. |
RO6 | Five (5) days leave with pay for each death of a significantly close relative or immediate family member. Limited hourly employees are eligible for funeral leave if scheduled to work at the time of the funeral, and will be paid the number of hours scheduled to work. |
RO8 | Two (2) days with pay for each death of a significantly close person, or three (3) days with pay if travel of five hundred (500) or more miles is required. |
RO 10 | Five (5) days with pay for each death of a significantly close relative or domestic partner (as defined in Provision 15.17). |
RO 11 | Two (2) days with pay for each death of an immediate family member, or three (3) days with pay if travel of over 500 miles is required (Article 14) |
