Sick Leave
Sick Leave is provided to protect the employee from a loss of income when physically incapacitated from work.
Eligibility
A full-time qualified employee earns 8 hours of sick leave per month. A part-time qualified employee earns pro-rated sick leave based on their time base.
Accrual
Eleven days of pay must be accrued in a pay period to earn sick leave credits for that pay period. Sick leave accrues on the first day of the following pay period.
Usage
Sick leave credits may not be used prior to their accrual. Employees are responsible for reporting absences to the appropriate administrator as soon as possible. Supervisors may require substantiation for any absence, regardless of length of time.
Maximum
There is no maximum on the amount of sick leave credit an employee can accumulate. Unused sick leave may be converted into service credit at retirement in accordance with CalPERS guidelines.
