EMPLOYEE ADA ACCOMMODATION SERVICES

California State University, Fresno is committed to providing a supportive work environment. To ensure equal access and opportunity, Fresno State shall provide reasonable accommodations to employees and applicants with disabilities.

For more information on CSU’s policy on disability support and accommodations, please refer to The California State University Board of Trustees Policy on Disability Support and Accommodations — Executive Order 1111. The policy applies to all CSU campuses and to the Office of the Chancellor.  It applies but is not limited to, academic programs and services, student services, auxiliary programs and services, information resources and technologies, procurement of goods and services, and capital planning, design, construction.

Change in Modality Requests

  •  Faculty Change in Modality Requests for medical reasons (of the faculty) must be requested through the ADA interactive process.  Once the appropriate medical documentation and application are completed; the department chair, dean, and Faculty Affairs will be notified.  During this process, it may be determined that a change of modality is not feasible.  Determination is on a case-by-case basis.  FML is a reasonable accommodation should a change in modality not be feasible.
  • Non-Medical Change in Modality Requests are determined by the chair, dean and Faculty Affairs
  • General COVID concerns for your health and/or family members do not meet the threshold for an ADA accommodation.  Specific medical documentation is required regarding your medical condition/disability that prevents you (the employee) from returning to work on campus.

Important:

You may also reference applicable state and federal laws including, but not limited to, the ADA, 42 U.S.C. § 12101 et seq.; Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, 29 U.S.C. § 794 et seq.; and applicable state laws, including but not limited to the California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), Government Code § 12940 et seq. and Education Code § 67302 and 67310-13 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Ergonomics

For workstation ergonomic evaluations unrelated to a sensory, mental or physical disability, please email Julie Irwin at julie@csufresno.edu or 559.278.2125.   You do not need to go through the accommodation process for a standard ergonomic evaluation.

Please note that the Ergonomic Evaluation Process is different than, and separate from, the ADA/FEHA Reasonable Accommodation process. Office equipment identified as necessary through the Ergonomic Evaluation process is the responsibility of the employee’s department, unless the employee has a qualifying disability and the equipment addresses the employee’s limitations. That determination will be made through the interactive process.
